JACOB DE HOYOS PIANO STUDIO

Inspiring a lifelong love of music.

At my studio, we celebrate each student's unique musical journey. Whether you're a beginner, an advanced musician, or anywhere in between, I tailor lessons to your individual learning style and goals.

I work with students of all ages, from young children to adults, and individuals with special needs. My approach is rooted in understanding, creating an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

My mission

Passion + committment

With a deep passion for music and teaching, I am dedicated to helping students reach their full potential. From beginners to advanced musicians preparing for college auditions and competitions, I focus on providing the right guidance for each student’s growth. My goal is to help you achieve success, refine your skills, and find joy in the process.

Learning with purpose

My goal is to nurture a love for music while developing the technical skills, creativity, and confidence necessary to excel. Music serves many purposes, it can be a form of self-expression, a path to personal growth, a way to connect with others, or a medium for storytelling. I focus on helping students discover and explore these diverse aspects, whether it's honing their technique, interpreting a piece with emotion, or finding their own voice through music. By fostering both the technical and expressive sides of music, I aim to create well-rounded musicians who not only master their instruments but also use music to communicate, inspire, and grow.

Creating a lasting love for music

At the core of my teaching philosophy is the goal of instilling a lifelong love for music. It's not just about learning to play an instrument, it's about developing a deep connection to music that lasts long after the lesson ends. Through engaging lessons, performance opportunities, and consistent encouragement, I aim to help you discover the joy and fulfillment that music can bring to your life.

Performance opportunities

One of the most rewarding aspects of learning music is the chance to share your progress with others. At my studio, I believe in creating opportunities for students to perform and showcase their hard work. Whether through recitals or informal performances, students are encouraged to take the stage and build confidence in their abilities. These performance opportunities are designed to be both supportive and celebratory, allowing students to shine in front of their peers, families, and the wider community. These events also provide valuable experience for students preparing for competitions, college auditions, or simply wanting to enjoy the thrill of performing.

Dr. Jacob De Hoyos

I’m Dr. Jacob De Hoyos, a pianist and educator based in New York City, where I serve as Professor of Piano at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and formerly the Piano Department Chair at Concordia Conservatory. I earned my Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) and Master of Music (M.M.) from Stony Brook University, where I was awarded both a Teaching Assistantship and a scholarship, and I hold a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) and Pedagogy Certificate from Texas Tech University.

I began my piano studies at the age of 15, which gives me a unique perspective and deep empathy for students who are starting their musical journey at any stage of life. I’m passionate about creating an encouraging and engaging learning environment where students feel supported in their growth—whether they are young beginners or advanced musicians preparing for competitions or college auditions.
